I purchased this book shortly before I took my first steps towards becoming an entrepreneur. I was about to launch my first business, and I didn’t know what to expect, but I wanted to be able to support myself and my family.
I downloaded a book a week and started reading it. It was about time for the next chapter, so I flipped open the page. I was a little surprised to discover that the author started the book with a story about a conversation she had had with her father when she was a young teenager. I began to smile as I realized I was reading a real-life story, not just a story about how to become an entrepreneur.
It didn’t matter that it was real-life; I loved the plot line and characters, and the book resonated in several ways. First, it has a tone of positivity. It is full of wonderful advice, not just for starting and running a business, but also for other parts of life.
Second, it puts you in the shoes of a young woman who was heading into business school, and who needed to figure out how to pay for school, while planning to have a job that would pay the bills once she graduated. It also tells the stories of young entrepreneurs who were struggling to make their businesses successful.
Abigail Van Buren is an entrepreneur, investor, serial entrepreneur, and President and Chief Investment Officer of Women of Sage. In 2015, she launched a new digital media platform that showcases entrepreneurs and provides educational resources that will help others start and grow successful businesses. She speaks at conferences around the world on issues affecting female entrepreneurs, and is a frequent guest on business media programs.
I loved the book and feel that it helped me make sense of things. My father and I still discuss this book, the implications of the life choices I made, and what be359ba680
